IFLA Working Programme 04 - Desertification and Sustainable Land Management
Goal: Develop and promote landscape based solutions for desertification prevention and mitigation. Supporting the restoration of degraded lands and the rehabilitation of dryland ecosystems. Promoting sustainable land management practices that enhance the resilience of dry land ecosystems
Impact: Improve land productivity and resilience in dryland areas by enhancing ecosystem services and biodiversity and dryland regions contributing to the livelihoods and well-being of communities affected.
Working Programme Members
Director - Gaby Hansen
Gaby earned her bachelor of architectural technology degree at Cape Peninsula of Science and Technology. She has worked in the industry for several architectural firms as senior architectural technologist before embarking on the academic journey. She joined the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning in 2011 as Junior Lecturer. She obtained her Master's degree in landscape architecture (profession) with merits at the University of Cape Town, 2016. Her research areas include participatory design and planning, landscape architecture and urbanism.
Co-director - Safouan Azouzi
Safouan Azouzi Is a design researcher and designer. Completed his doctoral studies in design at Sapienza University in Rome with the Department of Planning, Design and Technology of Architecture. His research focuses on design for social innovation, with a special specific emphasis on perspectives from the Global South and Decolonial Thinking. Currently, he's a postdoctoral fellow at the Aga Khan Programme for Islamic Architecture at MIT.
