IFLA Working Programme 10 - Indigenous Knowledge

Goal: Integrate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into landscape architecture practice, recognizing the value of traditional ecological knowledge and cultural practices.

Impact: Create culturally sensitive and ecologically appropriate landscapes that respect Indigenous rights and promote the preservation of traditional knowledge.

Director - Ashleigh Hunter

Ashleigh Hunter is a registered landscape architect. Her interest areas in landscape architecture revolves around exploring concepts of weaving matauranga Maori. She has worked with Designgroup Stapleton Elliott as a landscape architect and is currently working with WSP in New Zealand as Indigenous Design Principal.

 

Co-director - Nathaniel Willing

Nathaniel Willing (Anishinaabe, Sandy Bay First Nation Ojibway descent) is and Indigenous design advcate and co-founder of the ASLA Indigenous Collective Group. He deeply respects that Indigenous people and languages are inseparable from their to their ancestral lands, shaping the way communities heal, build, and thrive. His passion extends to uplifting Indigenous youth, creating pathways for future leaders to enter landscape architecture and carry forward Indigenous knowledge in meaningful and impactful ways.
