‘CATEGORY A’ MEMBERS OF IFLA

IFLA category A membership comprises of national or multi-national associations whose constitution and by-laws have been approved by the regional body and thereafter ratified by the World Council.

Category A members are represented by an appointed delegate who has the right to a single vote on matters presented at the World Council meetings.

APPLY TO BECOME A CATEGORY A MEMBER OF IFLA

Criteria:

Associations wishing to join IFLA as a Category A member must provide;

  • Constitution (or Statutes, Articles of Association, etc.), By-laws (or Regulations). These should be in accordance with IFLAs own

  • Certificate showing it has been legally registered in its own country

  • Contact details of its President

  • Details of the Educational and Professional background of its founding members

Process:

  1. Associations must complete the application form here.

  2. Applications received will be assessed by the PPP Regional Chair. They will evaluate the submitted documents against all IFLA requirements, especially those regarding the education and professional titles of members, and transparency/internal democracy of association.

  3. Should everything be deemed acceptable, the Regional Chair shall forward his/er approval and the application materials to the PPP Committee Chair, who, in turn, shall present the application for the preliminary approval of the Executive Committee.

The membership application will be submitted for official ratification to the next IFLA World Council. If necessary the Executive Committee has the power to grant the applicant association a temporary membership of IFLA until the World Council ratification, or, if deemed appropriate in the case of minor bureaucratic issues, to do so under a proviso these are fulfilled by the association within a defined deadline.
