AILA calls on Federal MPs to support Climate Change Bill 2020

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has thrown its support behind a private members bill to be put before the Federal Parliament on the 9th of November to begin to immediate prioritise the nations response to climate change.

The Climate Change (Adaptation and Mitigation) Bill 2020, to be put forth by Independent MP Zali Steggall, already has the support of over 90 organisations who are all calling for a bipartisan approach to the issues of climate change.

The core pillars of the bill include;

• A net zero target by 2050
• National risk assessments and adaptation plans
• Technology readiness assessment
• An independent advisory commission

AILA President Claire Martin said, “This Bill is in line with AILA’s 2019 Climate and Biodiversity Emergency Declaration last year and we strongly advocate that all Members of Parliament give this Bill the consideration it deserves. Now is the time to act, doing nothing is no longer an option.”

The Bill is due to be tabled in Federal Parliament on the 9th of November.
