Nominations for IFLA world-level elections are now open

IFLA has opened its call for nominations for various positions within it’s Executive Committee.

This year we are holding world-level elections for:

  • IFLA President

  • IFLA Treasurer

  • IFLA Standing Committee Chair on Communications and External Relations

  • IFLA Standing Committee Chair on Education and Academic Affairs

  • IFLA Standing Committee Chair on Professional Practice and Policy

The call for nominations started on 6th March and nominations are due on 15th April 2024 at 19.00 (Brussels Time, Central European Time Zone).

In accordance with IFLA’s Constitution, Section 5, and the By-Laws and Rules of Procedures, Section 4, an election is to be held for the above offices for the period beginning immediately after the World Council Meeting 2024 and ending immediately after the World Council Meeting 2026, with exception of IFLA Treasurer whose office will start on 1 of January 2025 and end on 31 December 2026.

IFLA has written to all National Association Delegate’s to IFLA who may, alongside each IFLA ExCo Officer, submit up to two nominations for each office.

Before making a nomination delegates should consult with and consider the views of their association and former delegates. Please, note that no candidate may stand for two world offices at the same time. Nominees must select only one office, if nominated for more than one. Nominations should be based on careful consideration of the role and its suitability for the nominee.

Each Delegate or ExCo Officer making a nomination must first secure written consent from the nominee that, if nominated, will agree to stand for such office.

The submission is in two parts

  • The nomination form must be completed by the Delegate or ExCo Officer making a nomination

  • The nominee consent form must be completed by the candidate, who must also provide a written manifesto, current brief biography, and a passport photo

The deadline for receiving both completed forms is 15 April 2024, 19.00 (Brussels Time, Central European Time Zone). Nominations submitted after the due date or submitted incomplete will be considered invalid.

After the call for nominations closes, a validated list of nominees will be circulated to IFLA membership by 30 April 2024. The eligible nominees will transit to the second stage of the elections, which will happen in the form of electronic voting from 15 May 2024 to 14 June 2024.
