What is landscape to you?
Landscape is nature, memory, and culture, the bedrock of society and the foundation of who we are. It gives us food, water, and clean air. It is where we belong: where we come from, live, and work. From a sidewalk to the skyline, from urban squares to open seas and skies, landscape shapes our mood, our confidence, and our sense of hope, often while being taken for granted and under threat.
Understanding landscape as a whole helps us make better decisions: how to care for our environment, meet global challenges, and engage the communities who call it home.
The Campaign
As part of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), the International Landscape Convention (ILC) working program invites people everywhere to answer this one simple question, ‘What is landscape to you?’ and to celebrate the rich diversity of landscape and what it means to us.
We're asking landscape architects and everyday citizens alike, Indigenous communities, youth, artists, and policymakers, to share a single photograph and a sentence or short paragraph explaining what a landscape means to you and why.
Your response will join a global collection of voices, not generic categories, but real places and real meanings, that will help shape spatial visions, planning, and design worldwide. Selected submissions may be featured in an exhibition and publications promoting the proposed International Landscape Convention. Our goal is for your country, and countries world-wide, to support an International Landscape Convention. We need your support.
